Hey hunny, what is your 40 time?

This will be my daughter some day. Not her specifically, but an incarnation like her. You know what I mean. Unless I have boys (fingers crossed!).

So this happened...

A Salt Lake City-area man is accused of shooting his roommate while aiming at a mouse.  Twenty-seven-year-old Christian Paul faces one count of felony discharge of a firearm.  Police say Paul claims he and his roommate were trying to kill a mouse in a pantry.  The suspect says while shooting at the mouse, the roommate was shot in the chest.  Apparently, the bullet went through a wall and struck the victim.  Officers say the evidence seems to support Paul's story.  Police also say alcohol and or drugs may have been a factor.

I mean, who hasn't been there? And seriously, does that last sentence surprise anyone?

Monday after the Oscars...

So...I didn't do so hot in my Friday predictions of last night's Oscars. I did well in the big 3, getting Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress correctly, but then just hit correctly on 4 of the next 20. That left me 7 of 23, or .304. In baseball, that's pretty good. Oscar picking? Not so much.

Shot in the Dark Guesses for the Academy Awards

I apparently haven't been out to the movies much this year, as I've only seen one movie that's received Academy Award nominations, but that's not going to stop me from making a random guess at each category. Here goes nothing...

Taste the Lin-Sanity

If you've ever seen Tosh.O, you might be familiar with the game "Is it Racist?

Well, it's time to play another edition.
Here's an ice cream, sold only on Harvard Square, made with lychee honey, made from a fruit native   to southeast Asia. And as the Deadspin article says, "not the part of Asia that Jeremy Lin comes from. (The part of Asia that Jeremy Lin comes from is Northern California.)" It also has fortune cookies in it.

I guess the name is OK, but why couldn't cookies and cream be "Linsane?" Maybe skittles and maybe syrup. That's pretty Linsane. Asian fruit and fortune cookies? Real original.

How good are the Badgers?

The Badgers take on Iowa tonight, a team they lost to by 7 at home earlier in the season. Wisconsin has climbed back to #15 in the rankings, and I fully expect them to head into Iowa City tonight and take down the Hawkeyes. But the Badgers are tough to figure out. It seems like they could beat anyone in the country with their style of play, but any team could hit a couple of shots early and run away from the Badgers. It does seem that they are impervious to momentum, as their style of play negates that in both directions. I think they will beat Iowa tonight (which you can listen to on our sister station Eagle 102.7) and their game at Ohio State this weekend could be really telling in whether or not the Badgers will be able to make any noise in March.

Why is fish okay?

It never made sense to me why fish was ok for Catholics to eat during lent. Why is a piece of salmon ok put not a piece of steak? Well, I consulted the google machine, and here was the best answer I found:
"The law of abstinence requires a Catholic 14 years of age until death to abstain from eating meat on Fridays in honor of the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday. Meat is considered to be the flesh and organs of mammals and fowl. Moral theologians have traditionally considered this also to forbid soups or gravies made from them. Salt and freshwater species of fish, amphibians, reptiles and shellfish are permitted, as are animal derived products such as margarine and gelatin which do not have any meat taste."

So there you go. Other animals eat fish, so it's ok for us too as well. But not pigs. Those are off limits.

How good could the Knicks be?

The fact that Jeremy Lin has to deny the rumor that he is dating Kim Kardashian is absurd. The kid seems humble and even-keeled, and all he wants to do is play basketball. I think the New York Knicks will evolve into becoming a force in the east, and much of it will hinge on how well Lin plays. He will free up Carmelo on the wing and Amare in the post, and can run the pick-n-roll with an excellent alley-oop target, Tyson Chandler. If JR Smith can become the knockdown shooter the Knicks need, New York could become a serious threat in the East.

Total Non-story

I don't like media coverage sometimes. This whole thing with LeBron James saying he'd be open to going back to Cleveland is such a non-story. He got asked if he'd ever be open to it, and what is he supposed to say? "Eff that, I hate that place"? I don't think so. He probably could have deflected the question, saying he's happy where he's at and yada yada yada. I guess it is a slow time for sports, but can't we talk about Jeremy Lin more? (Note the sarcasm.)

Rational Reaction of the Day

Consider it Australian justice.
A McDonald's manager in Sydney was dealing with a drunk, unruly customer, when the restaurant patron threatened to jump over the counter and beat up the manager.

The manager responded with "If you come over the counter, I'll throw oil on you."

The man jumped over the counter.

He got oil thrown on him, and now has "serious burns to his face, chest and arms."

This is a true story.

Jeremy Lin is apparently the new hot thing, not only in the NBA, but in pop culture. His story is pretty cool. No scholarships out of college, went to Harvard. So he's pretty smart. Undrafted out of college, cut twice in the NBA, then gets his shot in New York, and lights it up.

The next step? Obviously date Kim Kardashian.

It makes sense though. They could be KARDASHA-LIN.

Click on the link here for some pictures of Kim, because it's Thursday and you deserve it.

Candy heart sayings...almost

Twitter is awesome. Today there was a trending topic called #candyheartrejects, with people chiming in with things that didn't make it onto candy hearts. Here are some of my favorites...

Big Donation

Well, it turns out that the odds were 50-1 that the first score of the game would be a safety, and Jona Rechnitz, a Giants fan, had placed $1,000 on the wager. $1,000! That's a lot of money to pay on a longshot.

My first thought when Tom Brady was flagged for intentional grounding in the end zone, resulting in a safety for the Giants, was "I wonder what the odds were for that in Vegas."

Lucky for him, it paid out, and he's announced he's going to donate the money to charity. He's going to give a portion to a charity of Brady's choice, as well as a portion to the preferred charity of Justin Tuck, the Giants DE that forced Brady to make that error.

For such a long shot bet to pay off, that's a lot of money to give to charity. $50k in winnings? I'm not sure I could do the same.

Miss Pac Man

So Floyd Mayweather has time for one more big fight before he goes to prison, and it's officially not going to be Manny Pacquiao. Anyone that has even a passing interest in boxing wants to see this fight, but according to Floyd, Manny won't fight him over drug testing issues. Mayweather just took to twitter announcing his spring fight, going as far to say "I'm fighting Miguel Cotto on May 5th because Miss Pac Man is ducking me."

I'm interested to see if Pacquiao has a response.
