On Monday, the Brewers' head honcho, chairman and principal owner Mark Attanasio, announced that any fan that passes through the Miller Park gates will receive a $10 voucher to use on nearly anything in the park. According to the press release, the only places in the park where the vouchers will not be accepted are at the corporate-backed venues such as Friday's Front Row, the Johnson Controls Stadium Club, the Miller Park Suites, as well as all-inclusive entertainment areas and portable merchandise stands.
It is a gesture of goodwill that will mount financially for the small-market club, which falls under the umbrella of a larger "Fans First" campaign. The Brewers have 12 home dates in the month of August and that same press release expects 30,000 per game in August, Milwaukee will dole out upwards of $3.5 million worth of free vouchers.“This has been a challenging season for all of us, but the one thing that has never wavered has been the tremendous support we have received from fans who love the Brewers,” Attanasio said through the release.
“We wanted to do something meaningful to show our appreciation, and we will strive to provide the best fan experience possible.”
The 65-game suspension handed down to Braun comes without pay, meaning the Brewers will save approximately $3.4 million over the course of the 2013. It appears that that Attanasio and the Milwaukee club had that figure in mind when developing a way to give back to the fan base, and found a way to do so in an unprecedented manner.
The Brewers needed to act quickly to try to help repair the additional damages that the suspension had on the reputation of the club, and handing out a $10 voucher to each fan is certainly a meaningful gesture. Fans will be able to read through the lines and know why they are receiving the vouchers, but they will likely go a long way to help keeping fans in the stands for the remainder of the season.
